Video - "Warrior Ethos" Mental Toughness (VHS)
with John Officer,
US Naval Academy Head Tennis Coach
ITA Region I Coach of the Year 1991, 1999
1991 USPTA National College Coach of the Year
"Mental Toughness" has been around as long as there
has been competition. In the past 20 years we have relied
on the principles of Psychology to help define this most crucial
ingredient in championship tennis. Words like self-esteem,
positive, negative, and fun have been presented in the hopes
of quantifying what it takes mentally to think like a champion.
Unfortunately, words of psychology are too vague to define
the real battle on the court. The "Warrior Ethos"
concept has been around for centuries and does a much better
job of explaining the key elements in competition in a way
the mind can access. Officer defines the "warrior ethos"
and breaks it into 12 categories: Passion, goals, fear, calmness,
energy, work ethic, ethics, determination, clarity, belief,
competitive fire, and awareness. Learn how to be a "warrior"
on the courts!
38 minutes. 2002.
